Ranch kitchens
A typical Raytown ranch kitchen is a galley or an L with a window over the sink and a doorway at each end. Many still have site-built wood cabinets or a 1970s replacement set. We usually keep the plumbing where it is, add a tall pantry cabinet, swap base shelves for drawers and fit the uppers right to the ceiling. Flat slab or simple shaker doors suit the mid-century lines of these houses.
Measuring an older kitchen before drawing itThe EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule applies to paid work that disturbs painted surfaces in pre-1978 homes, and demolition of painted surfaces is always covered. Removing old painted cabinets falls under it. Ask about lead-safe work practices before the tear-out is scheduled.
